I, Vicki Jayne Maris, (National Horse and Pony Network Managing Director and Inspirational Horsemanship Tutor) and my horse conducted the tried and tested for the Orbitless bridle. We are both used to using bitless bridles for horsemanship. For many years we have used a number of different bitless bridles. I prefer a bitless bridle that offers an instant release of pressure as it can give a clear precise response and the release can timed making full use of pressure and release techniques used in horse training. I love the instant release the Orbitless bridle offers. You can encourage your horse to work from subtle, soft, gentle pressure knowing the instant release will be precise and clear. My horse works happily, softly and correctly in this bridle. There are no long shanks to apply large amounts of leverage. Due to the unique shape of the ellipses the bridle has numerous settings, and it can be varied between poll and chin pressure and nose and chin pressure. Depending of the position of the reins the pressure can be varied from very little pressure to moderate pressure. If you are thinking of trying bitless or already ride bitless then this bridle is a must have. For more information please visit www.orbitlessbridle.co.uk

Managing a horse or pony with Cushings can be tricky. Thankfully Feedmark have brought out a first rate supplement to support equines with Cushings. C-Plus is a chastetree based supplement with cinnamon, seaweed and herbs. We tested C-Plus on a 21 year old gelding with Cushings, we noticed the coat condition improved, the coat became shiney and the coat felt less course. C-Plus also helped with coat shedding, and in reducing the excess body fat typical in horses with Cushings. We also noticed improved immunity, this horse is very prone to skin infections from minor nicks and while on C-Plus these did not cause a problem. We used C-Plus along side advice from our vet and conventional medication. For more information on Feedmark please visit www.feedmark.com

Thank you to Feedmark for their excellent FREE advice and support. My horse was suffering bouts of gastric pain, however not colic. After discussion with my vet and Feedmark’s nutritional advisor it was suggested to try him on a supplement for gastric ulcers. Wow what a difference Ulcer Calm has made, my horse was having gastric painful episodes several times a week and since being on Ulcer Calm not one episode. It has soothed his tummy and in turn given him back a quality of life.

A 400ml jar of Silverfeet lasts a long time and at a RRP of £7.50 it is very good value for money. For more information please visit http://www.silverfeet.co.uk

Keeping your horse’s hooves healthy and beautifully shiny is now simple with Silverfeet hoof balm. The unique blend of natural ingredients and silver protects against bacterial and fungal growth. It is available in four colours, natural, black, blue and pink. We tested the natural and found it is easy to apply, leaving a lovely shine brining out the natural colours in the hoof. During the period we used Silverfeet hoof balm our horse’s hooves improved, looking more moisturised plus one hoof had a minor thrush like infection which soon disappeared. Silverfeet contains a silver ion technology which eliminates the growth of bacteria and prevents the growth of common microbes. (Many modern hospital dressings use silver technology.)

Chestfields Multi Purpose Cleaner
|
 |
If you are looking for a quick and easy multi purpose cleaner then this one is a must have. We first tested this on a very greasy, dirty rope halter and lead rope, a few squirts of the cleaner and left for a few minutes and the grime simply dissolved and formed a mucky puddle under the halter. Once rinsed with warm water the halter and lead rope looked brand new. So no scrubbing, no need to leave to soak and no risk of the halter loosing its shape and loosening the knots by being put in the washing machine. We then used this cleaner on our rope bitless bridles with the same fantastic results. It can be used for a wide range of equine cleaning jobs e.g. grooming kits, buckets, bits, etc… This fast acting cleaner is also anti bacterial, it leaves no residue or smell. http://chestfields.com

The horse we tested Pure Flax on has a compromised immune system and as a result has a very poor coat, dry skin and had suffered a bout of skin infections requiring harsh veterinary treatments leaving him with a scurfy and terrible looking coat. Along with this he also suffered mild bouts of colic. Feeding Pure Flax greatly improved this horse’s skin and coat, the coat how has a glossy shine and the skin is no longer dry, scurfy and is very healthy. Our horse also suffered no bouts of colic during the trial period. Pure Flax is a great source of Omega 3 and 6 for horses which many horse diets often lack. www.pureflax.co.uk

Wow this is a great shampoo. We washed an extremely dirty tail with this shampoo and it cut through the dirt and grease with ease. It was easy to rinse and left the tail soft, silky and with a glossy shine. We also used Ultimate Wash diluted on the horse’s legs as he had some minor skin irritation. The wash is very gentle, soothing and antiseptic. A great shampoo that will be a must have to not only wash your horse to achieve a deep clean but it soothes hot fly bitten skin, mud fever, and you can use it to prevent minor skin infections. A little goes a long way. www.ggequine.com

The horse we use this product on is very prone to gassy colic and our vet recommended feeding a pre and probiotic supplement. Bio Pro from Feedmark contains both FOS and yeast (YeaSacc1026). Many horses would benefit from Bio Pro as gut balance can be effected by many factors, a change of pasture, stress, travel, competition, old age, etc…This is a must have supplement it helps to maintain a healthy gut balance. www.feedmark.com

Healing Tree Private Reserve Conditioning Tea Tree Oil Shampoo Nice smelling product that left a pleasant clean smell on the horses, only a small quantity needed when used with a sponge and cold water. Good suds and came off with 2 rinses to make the horses squeaky clean. Coats looks visible shiny and in good condition when dry and felt very soft and silky to touch. My hands were soft and silky also. I also noticed less flies around the horses the next day. It does everything it says on the label. www.healing-tree.co.uk

Healing Tree Go Away Fly Repellent Roll On
|
 |
A handy roll on fly Repellent that is easy to use around the horse’s head. It is a blend of natural essential oils, smells good to me but the flies really don’t like it. Flies around a horse’s head can cause problems from annoyance to causing eye infections. Having a handy roll on fly repellent that you can use on the head is a great product to have to hand. www.healing-tree.co.uk

Gas-Ease is pure activated charcoal. This particular activated charcoal is manufactured for the pharmaceutical industry. We tested this product on a horse with Cushings, who is very prone to gassy colic and laminitis. We consulted with the vet regarding using Gas-Ease along side this horse’s medication. The advice was to feed medication am and let at least 4 hours pass before using Gas-Ease. The test horse can be fussy about supplements and Gas-Ease was eaten with no fuss. While using Gas-Ease we had no bouts of colic or laminitis. During the trial period we had to move paddocks to fresh pasture. Usually when moving even when carefully and slowly increasing time on new grass this horse would have suffered a bout of gassy colic. By giving Gas-Ease we had a trouble free paddock move. Gas-Ease is a must have for any horse owner who has a horse prone to gassy colic. http://www.stablelabel.co.uk/index.htm

Wow…we tested the Magloc and what an innovative and beautifully designed product. The Magloc helps you to connect two parts together fast and simply. Ideal for attaching to lead ropes as horses can get spooked and this enables a safe fast way of release. Plus when you catch a horse the Magloc by magnetic action joins together fast and smoothly, it eliminates fumbling with catches and clips. This safe fast release can be done one handed so ideal for many practical equine uses, we used it to hang haynets, as an additional safety catch on a stable door and on a paddock gate and on breech straps in a trailer.
