World Horse Welfare Horses Available for Loan

world horse welfare logo

World Horse Welfare needs your help to rehome their horses. World Horse Welfare currently has over 290 horses and ponies at its four Recovery and Rehabilitation Centres and urgently needs to rehome some of them.

We are looking for long-term loan homes for everything from lead-rein ponies to competition horses as well as non-ridden youngsters and companions. Most of these horses originally came into World Horse Welfare as welfare cases. Can you provided the loving home these horses and ponies desperately need?

Below are just a few of the many horses that are ready for rehoming. All the horses available for long term loan at World Horse Weflare can be seen and applied for on their website. To visit their website please click here and follow the links to the Loan Scheme.

Hall Farm

Zoe
whw zoe
Zoe was gifted into World Horse Welfare in September 2005. She is a 15.2hh Chestnut TB mare, she came to us as a ridden horse but is now enjoying her retirement! Zoe is not ridden any more due to her "getting on a bit!" Zoe seems to enjoy being a lady of leisure! Zoe needs a home where she can stay with one other and be pampered, preferably another Thoroughbred as nearly all TBs seem to share the same needs! Zoe does need shoeing all round as she has got poor feet but she is very good to shoe and is on a hoof supplement.

Turkish
whw turkish

Turkish is a gorgeous 10.2hh native black gelding, he arrived at Hall Farm as part of a welfare case in 2003. He has since been out on loan as a lead rein pony but was recently returned due to his young rider developing a serious allergy to horses. Turkish is a good lead rein pony but will require adult supervision at all times when being handled by children. He can carry a maximum weight of 4 stone. He makes a good companion to bigger geldings but will bully smaller ponies. He is easy to handle and is currently living in a straw barn at night and is turned out on a bare paddock during the day.

Penny Farm

Snowy (Polo)
whw snowy

Snowy is Snowy is a 18 yo 12hh grey mare.  She is ready to rehome now as a non ridden companion pony.  Snowy came into Penny Farm in March 2008 on return from loan.  She is good to do but a little head shy - she would benefit from an experienced home where she would be handled daily.  Snowy has had laminitis in the past and will need careful monitoring to prevent it.  She mixes well with other mares and is currently turned out for 4hrs an day and stabled the rest of the time.

Blaze

whw blaze

Blaze is a 14.2hh 7 yo bay gelding.  He came into Penny Farm in October 2007.  Blaze was having behavioural problems when ridden, so he was assessed by the vet and physio and found to be lame behind.  This was investigated and he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis.  We medicated the joints involved, and he was then box rested to allow things to settle.  Unfortunately, things have not improved enough for him to start work, so we have decided to rehome him as a non ridden companion.  Blaze is good to handle and for the vet and farrier.  He is currently turned out during the day with other geldings and is in at night.  He is prone to weight gain so will need restricted grazing especially during the spring/summer months.  Blaze loves attention and would benefit from being handled daily.  He bangs his door at feed times - so he gets his first!!

Belwade Farm

Suton Lulette
whw suton

Lilly, as she is more commonly known, has been with the ILPH for several years now.  She has been out on loan for the past 9 years but was returned recently due to a change in her borrowers circumstances.  Lilly is now ready to be rehomed once again as a non-ridden companion. Lilly is quite an easy going horse that enjoys human attention.  She behaves well for both the vet and farrier.  She gets on well with the other mares in her field, but would get upset if left on her own for any length of time. Lilly is currently living out 24 hours a day.  During the winter months she will need extra hay in the field and somewhere to shelter if the weather turns bad. If you think you are able to offer Lilly the home she deserves for the rest of her days, please submit an application.  We will expect you to be able to come to Belwade to meet her.

Loxley Bowman
whw bowman

Bowman arrived at Belwade in 2003 as a young horse with increasing behavioural problems and multi-limb lameness’s. Bowman underwent extensive rehabilitation which has failed to make him a sound candidate for a ridden home. Bowman has a kind laid back nature and lives out all year round. He is a good looking gelding, gets on well with other horse and enjoys human attention. Any potential borrower must be aware that he has had a history of sarcoids and will require regular checking.  If you think you can offer Bowman a suitable home, please submit an application. You will be required to come to Belwade to meet him.
